In preparation for your departure, you're probably wondering what the weather in Austin is like so you can pack accordingly. The weather in Austin can be tricky. While we have the four seasons, they don't progress as smoothly as one would assume. In fact, the general saying is "if you don't like the weather, come back in five minutes" because the weather can change so quickly in Austin. Here is some information about what to expect during your time here.

 

Winter (December - February)

 

Compared to other cities, winter's are very mild in Austin. However if you are not used to cold weather, it can get quite chilly. As mentioned before, Austin's weather can be unpredictable at times and we do have our warm winter days, however most of the time it remains cold.

 

Temperature: Highs average around 17 celsius, while lows average at 5 celsius. However, temperatures can dip to below freezing and surge to around 21 celsius.

Climate: Winter days are usually windy, cloudy and/or rainy. Snow is very rare in Austin, however some days roads may ice over as the temperature drops.

Suggested clothing: Pants/jeans, sweaters, long sleeves, scarves, hats, boots, medium weight & waterproof jackets.

 

**Clothes that you can layer with work very well for Austin. Most buildings are well insulated so you'll be able to remove or add on layers as you get warmer and colder respectively.

 

Spring (March - May)

 

Spring is a great time to be in Austin. This is when the weather is not too cold and not too warm.

 

Temperature: The highs during the Spring months will average around 20 celsius to 23 celsius. 

Climate: Sunny days, light breezes. Rain is also more abundant during Spring.

Suggested clothing: Light layers. As temperatures you'll go from jeans one day to shorts the next. Make sure you check the temperatures for the day before heading outside!

 

Summer (June - September)

 

Texas is known for it's extremely hot summers. Be prepared for the heat that will come. 

 

Temperature: The temperatures during these months average around 32 celsius. It will cool down a little during the nights but it will still be quite warm.

Climate: Hot, lots of sun (bring sunscreen!).

Suggested clothing: Shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops.

 

Autumn (October - November)

Similar to Spring, days in the Fall are usually mild, rain is frequent.

 

Temperature: The highs will usually range from 21-26 celsius.

Climate: Warmer days, chillier nights.

Suggested clothing: Light layers (similar to Spring).
