  • People who are good friends may hug when greeting each other

Professional Settings

  • When meeting co-workers or bosses for the first time, you shake hands and greet them with a "Hello" or "Hi", possibly followed by a "Nice to meet you" and/or "I'm (your name)"

    • A Good Handshake:

      • a firm grip

      • shake 3 times

      • maintain eye contact

    • You do not need to bow or lower your head (like in Asia), it is best to maintain eye contact to show respect and sincerity when meeting a person

    • The United States ranks rather well in power distance in the workplace, so people are expected to be treated fairly equall
